I have always enjoyed interacting and working with children. Throughout my various school placements during my time at university working with children aged 4 – 11, as well as my time working in a crèche, I realised that helping children to learn by spending time with them in both groups and as individuals was something that came naturally to me. The children’s enthusiasm for learning engaged me more and these experiences assured me that the teaching industry could be a rewarding career path.

I have now been a classroom teacher for over 3 years and during this time I have only become more enthusiastic within my roles. I am passionate about getting the results that will help the children to succeed as well as teaching a rich and varied curriculum which will help the children to flourish as individuals. I am confident in the areas of English and Mathematics as they are subjects which I cover daily in the primary curriculum. Within the subject of English, I am confident in teaching lessons focused on grammar, spelling, reading and writing. I also have broad subject knowledge in the areas of primary Mathematics including place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, shape, statistics, measurement and fractions.
My time at sixth form allowed me to focus on subjects which I found very enjoyable and most suited to a future career in teaching. English Language and Literature combined offered me a valuable insight into the formation and uses of the English language as well as allowing me to expand my appreciation of creative writing. Sociology offered me an informative understanding of the world as a whole. In particular my modules regarding education and its various aspects reinforced my passion to embark on an education related career as well as enhanced my aptitude and awareness of the social issues that affect education in the 21st century. German, although the most challenging of my A-levels, enhanced my presentation and speaking skills, characteristics which I consider to be vital to the success of any teacher. In my final year I also studied AS-levels in Photography and Statistics. Photography enhanced my creative and artistic skills while Statistics refreshed my memory of certain aspects which are important to mathematics and problem solving. Overall my years at sixth form improved my ability to manage time effectively, a further quality I believe necessary to a successful teaching career.
