About Umayr A

GCSE Maths and Science Tutor

I graduated from the University of Nottingham in June 2020 with a BEng Chemical Engineering Hons degree at a first-class level. During my time at university, I have always endeavoured to involve myself in teaching younger pupils. My time as a STEM Ambassador allowed me to work with a large variety of students, ranging from KS2 to A-level. I found the experience to be incredibly fulfilling and enjoyable as I am able to have a positive impact on pupils’ understanding and interest for the subjects. Additionally, the experience allowed me to evolve my lesson planning skills and explore different methods to engage with students of different age groups.

Personally, I am inquisitive and enjoy learning; thus, I believe it is important to give the curriculum further real-world context in order to really engage students. This is a trait that has aided me during my internship at ENGIE UK. I was able to gain a detailed knowledge about data integration technologies to advance energy efficiency and subsequently had to present this information in an effective manner for non-technical clients. This really taught me the importance of organization and effective presentation skills for audience engagement and understanding.

With regards to the current climate with the Covid-19 crisis, and the disruption to schools nationwide, I find it more important than ever to involve myself in aiding younger pupils in their studies.
