The world of science has always fascinated me; from an early age I was always looking for an explanation of why the things around me were happening, a constant process of discovery and learning. Some of the most impactful people in my life have been the teachers that I’ve had throughout the years sharing their knowledge with me and my colleagues in order to make us learn and understand everything that is happening around us. Things like how fire works, or why a chemical reaction happens or how our body grows all of this knowledge has been imparted onto me by the teachers I’ve had.
Over the years I’ve been drawn more to the didactic side of learning, from helping my fellow colleagues in school with the understanding of parts of the subject which they found difficult to helping with keeping a safe environment in the laboratory, imparting my knowledge which I’ve acquired over the years has been just as enjoyable as learning new things myself. My calm demeanour has aided a lot in this process as I’ve been able to keep a cool head in pressing or stressful situations where helping someone with understanding a certain topic may have been more difficult that usual.
My experience in the science field has been quite varied with A-Levels in both Chemistry and Physics, as well as a degree in Chemistry. I was able to learn a lot both in theory and practice, and also learned about keeping a safe working environment for everyone and safe practice in a science laboratory. I was also able to work for a few months in a secondary school where I was able to accommodate myself with the environment. I also participated in a project over a few weeks where I was able to work with the guidance of an academic on helping to design a new web page and a small chemistry research project, which has greatly increased my ability to work independently. Last year I also took part in collecting funds for and attending a summer camp with a charity that helps to provide people in Romania (which is my country of birth) with palliative care. The summer camp was aimed at giving disadvantaged children with relatives who are in the care of the charity a week long camp over the summer doing all sorts of projects and enjoyable activities. This has helped me to improve my ways of communicating, planning and carrying out activities for children.
As mentioned before, I was born in Romania and lived there for 12 years, before moving to the United Kingdom in 2009 and I am fluent in Romanian too. I am also well trained in using IT, with a great understanding of Microsoft Office programs as well as a minimal understanding of coding too. I also have good maths skills achieving an A grade in my GCSEs and a C grade in A-Level maths. I believe my main personality traits are calmness and patience, helping me overcome even the most stressful situations with relative ease.
With all this knowledge that I’ve gathered over the years I am looking now at pursuing a career in teaching, and imparting all that I’ve learned onto others allowing new students have the opportunity to study science like I have and beyond.
